“Mournes Weekend - 29th & 30th May 2010”

Foyle Hillwalking & Rambling Club long weekend trip to the Mournes featured two excellent walks led on Saturday by Ita and on Sunday by Bernard. Saturday weather was extremely wet and tested the waterproofs and boots fully while the Sunday walk was stunning sunshine and crystal clear views.

The Saturday walk covered several summits in the Mournes, Eagle Mountain 638m, Slieve Moughanmore 560m and Pigeon Rock Mountain 534m and the Sunday walk moved to Slieve Foy 588m the highest peak of a ridge of mountains collectively referred to as the Carlingford Mountain in County Louth.

Saturday evening was spent in Warrenpoint having an excellent meal followed by a return to Lecale Cottages for some Wine, single malt and a few games. Sunday evening was a combination Chinese / Curry / Pizza takeaway and more wine!

Our thanks to Ita and the committee for organising such an excellent weekend! The effort that goes into organising these is really appreciated!

Also have to thank Joe for the Ice Cream! (SHARC)

For GPS users I have a GPX file for each walk and can provide if requested – you can use this for your own walks or to overlay as I have done. All the photos are resized to 640x480 for the web - I retain the originals.
